Mumyoi-yaki is a type of pottery that uses a red, iron-rich clay from Sado Gold Mine. The fired pieces are extremely durable and their clear colour and lustre improve the more you use them. Due to its protected status, raw Mumyoi clay cannot leave Sado, making this pottery experience truly unique to the island. Under the guidance of a skilled local potter, you’ll shape your very own piece of Mumyoi ware—a one-of-a-kind souvenir infused with tradition and craftsmanship.
