Roving Ogi Matsuri Daiko

Ogi Minato Matsuri (Ogi Port Festival) is usually held on the last weekend of August every year. This festival dates back to the days when Ogi was a gold and silver shipping port and people would go to Kisaki Shrine to pray for safe voyages, bringing rice as an offering. Local taiko group Korei no Kai and Kodo members take part every year, pulling taiko floats throughout Ogi as they play Ogi Matsuri Daiko, a lively piece composed by Kodo's Yoshikazu Fujimoto. This festival boasts a huge fireworks display over the harbor, which makes for a wonderful finale to Sado’s summer festival season. This year, we’re not waiting until the end of summer to bring the beats of Ogi Matsuri Daiko back to town. Join Korei no Kai and Kodo on Day 3 of EC as they play this festive piece door-to-door along Ogi Shopping Street. Come and join the fun! It’s a really catchy rhythm, so prepare to get hooked.
