We have an annual tradition at Earth Celebration that takes place the morning after our three-day festival: Kodo, EC guest artists and our festival staff head to Ogi Port to give the first departing ferry a fond farewell by playing taiko and waving goodbye. This Farewell Taiko—Okuri Daiko in Japanese—has never been an official part of our festival programme. It simply started as a heartfelt portside goodbye and thanks from Kodo and the EC staff to everyone who came to Sado to take part, perform, and support the festival that year. Waving off the ferry is now something that Kodo members, locals, and festivalgoers alike look forward to each year—along with the promise to meet again the following year. The number of people who want to take part has grown year by year, so in 2025 we moved this unofficial send-off to Ogi Port’s North Wharf, where we could accommodate everyone safely and avoid disrupting Sado Kisen’s operations. We will continue to hold the Farewell Taiko here. If you’d like to join us at the North Wharf for this year’s farewell, please carefully read all the details below beforehand. ・Security staff will be on site for the Farewell Taiko. We kindly ask for your full cooperation in following their instructions regarding where to stand and watch the send-off. Please note that failure to follow their directions may result in being asked to leave the area. Thank you for your understanding. ・Parking is extremely limited in the port area.
