We have an annual tradition at Earth Celebration that takes place the morning after our three-day festival: Kodo and EC guest artists and staff head to Ogi Port to give the first departing ferry a fond farewell by playing taiko and waving goodbye. This Farewell Taiko—Okuri Daiko in Japanese—has never been an official part of our festival programme. It simply started as a heartfelt portside goodbye and thanks from Kodo and the EC staff to everyone who came to Sado to take part, perform, and support the festival that year. Waving off the ferry is now something that Kodo members, locals, and festivalgoers alike look forward to each year—along with the promise to meet again the following year. The number of people who want to take part has grown year by year, so we have decided to move this unofficial send-off to an area where we can accommodate everyone safely. This year, the Farewell Taiko will take place on Ogi Port’s North Wharf. If you’d like to join us at the port, please carefully read all the details below beforehand. We kindly ask for your help to make it a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Aug. 25 (Mon) Start at 10:35 am (Farewell Taiko starts as the ferry departs, ends around 11:00 am.

・Parking is strictly prohibited on the roads surrounding the port area. ・If you come by car, please use the designated free parking area shown on the map below. ・Security staff will be on site for the Farewell Taiko. We kindly ask for your full cooperation in following their instructions regarding where to stand and watch the send-off.
