[Shiroyama Park Session] Earth Beat Project 2024

Launched in 2023, Earth Beat Project (EBP) is a new initiative where EC invites folk musicians from around the world to explore new forms of global music with Kodo. This year, we have invited guest artist Ben Aylon back to EC, a musician from Israel who is recognized as one of Senegal’s next-generation percussionists. He will join Kodo members for this performance where they’ll create a unique musical realm with their resonant beats. With this collaboration, we will remember the late Senegalese percussionist Doudou N'Diaye Rose, a legendary master drummer and EC 1992 guest artist whose music greatly influenced Kodo. The EBP performers will incorporate motifs from compositions by Rose, paying homage to this great artist and EC’s history as they attempt to explore and add new depth to his soul-stirring rhythms.
