Percussionist Ryo Watanabe’s popular workshop “Fun with Samba” was an EC mainstay for a decade from 1996 to 2005. Twenty years on, it’s back and better than ever! Sound Forest provides a unique time and space for music and art to merge. In this morning workshop, you’ll get to play a range of samba instruments and create your own small instrument or decorative accessory to wear. Later that day, workshop participants will join Ryo on stage for a Special Fringe performance, where they’ll share their discoveries and creations from the workshop with the audience.

・For ages 9 & over ・Participants need to be available to also take part in the [Special Fringe] Sound Forest — Fun with Samba on Aug. 21 (Fri) at 15:00–15:20

・Clothing suitable for exercise ・Sports towel ・Water (or other hydrating drink) ・ Instruments and drumsticks will be lent to participants.

・This workshop will be conducted in Japanese and English. ・Workshop observation is not permitted. (One exception listed below.) ・For children ages 9–12 taking part, one parent/guardian is allowed to observe. (1 person max.) ・This workshop venue has a wheelchair accessible restroom.

You can take the EC Shuttle Bus* service or make your own way there by car or bike. *EC Shuttle Buses for Workshop & Experience Participants will be operating during the festival. Further details TBA in May on this page.
