We have an annual tradition at Earth Celebration that takes place the morning after our three-day festival: Kodo and EC guest artists and staff head to Ogi Port to give the first departing ferry a fond farewell by playing taiko and waving goodbye. This Farewell Taiko—Okuri Daiko in Japanese—has never been an official part of our festival programme. It simply started as a heartfelt portside goodbye and thanks from Kodo and the EC staff to everyone who came to Sado to take part, perform, and support the festival that year. The number of people who want to take part has grown year by year, so we have decided to move this unofficial send-off to an area where we can accommodate everyone safely. This year, the Farewell Taiko will take place on Ogi Port’s North Wharf. If you’d like to join us, please carefully read all the details here beforehand. We kindly ask for your help to make it a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
